OEB HealthcareWe use a Heart worm Antigen Test Kit From Revival Animal before starting the
dogs on Ivomec in the spring. This test will run about $40 per dog at my vet so I do
it myself. Please consult a vet before doing any treatment on your own.
Ivomec is the same active ingredient that is in those expensive HeartGuard Pills.
We dose our dogs with 1/10th of a CC per 10lbs once per month from April through
October. (We live in MN so no need in the winter, buurrrr!)
We also de-worm our adult dogs every 6 months. We rotate product as the worms
will become immune to the treatment if the same kind is used every time.
Pyrantel is administered orally at 1cc per 10lbs or 1/10t of a cc per pound once per
year. This is also what we use on our pups starting at 2 weeks.
We also use a syrup to help the dogs take down both the Ivomec and the Pyrantel.
The product we use is Sorbitol, Just makes it a bit easier to give the medications to
the dogs and you can be sure it goes down the hatch.
For tic prevention which is always an issue for us we treat our environment with
an all natural product called Diatomaceous-Earth, this is an outstanding product that
is all natural and safe. You can even eat some, really you can and people do, it has
lots of uses. Make sure it's food grade. In addition to the environment all of our
dogs wear Preventic Collars. Our pregnant females get treated with something else,
contact your vet for suggestions.
